Your BMW's direct ignition coils create and transfer power to the spark plug. With high mileage it is not uncommon for direct ignition coils to begin to fail. Usually, failed ignition coils will cause cylinder misfire codes. A failed ignition coil will cause a dead cylinder. While these coils can be replaced individually we believe that it is worthwhile to replace all of the ignition coils at once to ensure a long service life and proper performance from your BMW's ignition system.
